University in Thailand apologizes for mural depicting Hitler among superheroes

?A university in Thailand is apologizing after students created a mural depicting Adolf Hitler among a number of superheroes during a graduation celebration over the weekend.

According to The Hindustan Times, Bangkok's Chulalongkorn University expressed its "deep regret" Monday over the painting,?which featured Superman, Batman, the Incredible Hulk and Hitler.

In a letter to the Simon Wiesenthal Center, which had complained about the poster, a university representative said the students were "unaware of its significance," according to the report.?

Chulalongkorn posted apologies on its Facebook page.

"I will explain to the students involved and this will be a lesson for others that this man caused tragedy in the world," said Suppakorn Disatapundhu, dean of the faculty of fine arts, where the painting was produced.

Disatapundhu said Monday that freshmen had created the painting. He called their mistake "the result of pure ignorance," according to The Associated Press.
